Natural Stone Projects was commissioned to produce this magnificent kitchen island for a private client with a property overlooking Sydney Harbour.

The project combined split face, hand chiselled, drilled and honed surfaces to meet the design brief.

The main bulkhead of the island was carved from a solid block of the Kirk Nero which was chiselled out inside to reduce weight. The leg was produced from a block with a hand chiselled finish to mimic the split face on the outside edge. The counter top was a smooth honed surface which linked the 2 blocks with a split face edge to flow with the texture on the blocks.

A challenge for the project was to make the piece appear as one single unit. This was achieved with the use skilled masons to apply the various textures and the use of extra black colour enhancing sealant to unify the tonality.

The unit was carefully packed and shipped direct from Italy to Sydney. The client has contacted us to express her continued delight with the island.
